Open Shelving Kitchen with Integrated Lighting

Open shelving with integrated lighting enhances the kitchen’s airy, modern aesthetic while offering functional storage for everyday items. Positioned to maintain clear sightlines to the landscaped courtyard, the shelves create visual openness and display opportunities, blending utility with design elegance. Wall cabinetry in textured oak defines the organic atmosphere and sets the mood of the kitchen, while the smooth mid-tone gray island cabinetry introduces a contrasting, slightly rugged elegance. This combination brings warmth, depth, and natural character to the space. The open shelving kitchen design keeps the space open, allowing for unobstructed views of the landscaped front courtyard. Integrated lighting highlights everyday serving plates and decor, blending functionality with aesthetic appeal. This design fosters a natural connection between indoor and outdoor living spaces, maximizing natural light and creating a fresh, expansive feel.

Client Vision
This was a complete remodel, and the clients aimed to make the kitchen fully contemporary yet keep the space warm and welcoming. The incorporation of innovative cabinetry materials and durable quartz countertops met the family’s desire for easy maintenance without compromising on style. We collaborated with Matt Fajkus Architecture to achieve the modern sleek design. The clerestory windows helped create a light space and we worked to provide sufficient storage for the single family home. The extension of the cabinetry into the dining area allowed for a wet bar space for a coffee station. It was important to efficiently create storage for the homeowner’s everyday cooking, key elements for this are open shelving for cookbooks on the island and a hidden countertop appliance storage unit.
Hidden Appliance Storage Solutions

Concealed units for everyday kitchen essentials help maintain a clean, clutter-free look in this open shelving kitchen. The bar nook, designed as an extension of the kitchen, adds both functionality and design continuity. Frosted glass units in the coffee station provide stylish storage for glassware and coffee cups, adding visual interest while keeping the space minimalist and organized.
